Cherry HillThe Highlights
The gentle slope of Cherry Hill offers a perfect space for picnicking, reading and sunbathing.
Overlooking the Lake with views to the Ramble, Cherry Hill was named for the cherry trees that bloom across its landscape in the spring. It is located just west of the Bethesda Fountain, enclosed in a circular plaza. Cherry Hill Fountain dedicated in the 1860’s was originally intended as a scenic turnaround featuring a decorative watering trough for horse-drawn carriages. The fountain consists of a granite dome and sculpted bluestone basin inset with Minton tiles. Crowning this 14-foot high tower are eight frosted round glass lamps and a golden spire. Visitors flock here in the spring to take in the beauty of the blooming forsythia and azaleas. A short walk west leads to Wagner Cove, on of Central Park's hidden oases of calm. Tucked into a shady corner of the Lake, the Cove features a small rustic boat landing.
Location: Mid-Park at 72nd Street west of Bethesda Terrace
